10 Easy Ways to Be Healthier

Hey-oh.

Guys, let’s be honest; summer is no joke—SO hard to stay on track.  It feels like everyone just wants to par-tay e’rday, allweek.  Whether or not you worked hard alllll spring for that bikini bod or you’re just fed up and want to be healthier::

Here are 10 ways to instantly improve your health.

ONE

Overload on water.  I go a bit overkill and BRING like 3 la croix type beverages to work every day.  If you don’t like sparkling water, just buy a pack of lime/lemons and have them READY to go in your water bottle throughout the day.  The best part is, you can usually get a few bottles full and still have some “juice” left to squeeze out of those suckers.  Just do ANYTHING you can to 1: Avoid drinking other things (like soda, coffee, milk, juice, etc.) 2: Getting bored and snacking or 3: spending tons of money at coffee shops midday.  I don’t always feel like I’m 100% in the health game, but drinking lots of water helps me to stay on track.  I know its cliché… but it’s a tip for a reason! No one drinks enough!

TWO

Wear sunscreen every day.  I’m not saying to avoid the sun at all costs buttttt, people; have you seen the scales on the orange ladies who have tanned every day of their lives? First off, they’re so dinosaur that they like, can’t go back.  It’s like no longer a choice for them! So sad.  I refuse to tan my face at any cost. No one wants wrinkles.  No amount of botox can fix stupid.  Jussss sayin.  I mean, YES, we feel SOOOOO much prettier and skinnier when we are tan, no lies there.  BUT long term it is SO bad for you and skin cancer is also NOT great.

THREE

Listen to podcasts.  What? You’re thinking…. What a random health tip. WELL, how many times have you successfully gone to work, worked out, watched Modern Family, and got into bed thinking “MAN, I didn’t learn ANYTHING new today?”  It is such a terrible feeling to consciously know that you aren’t learning and growing every single day.  Back in school—we didn’t have to TRY to soak things in and learn new things about the world… we just showed up.  NOW, we have to make an effort.  Do it while you are commuting, doing your makeup, waiting in traffic, or wake up 30 minutes earlier and feed your brain.  I’m telling you, you will feel 100x better knowing that you are growing intellectually.  This week I listened to one on the history of corsets, famine, cosmetics, maps, I mean… the list goes on and on.  I’m FULL of random facts now, haha.  Want something girly? Try The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast.  Want to know how stuff works? Listen to Stuff You Should Know.  Find your thing.  Do it.  You won’t regret it.

MY RECENT FAVE:

FOUR

Um, smoothies.  If you are NOT on the smoothie train yet, GET on it.  I’m telling you, go to the store TONIGHT and get an entire pack of spinach.  Don’t like spinach? Doesn’t matter.  You won’t notice it in your morning smoothie jam.  Also, don’t overload the fruit.  Sugar is sugar.  ¼- ½ cup at most.  I like these combos.  1: Almond milk, chocolate protein, peanut butter powder, ½ cup of mixed berries, 2 cups of spinach, and ice.  SO good.  OR 2: decaf coffee, 1 cup (milk of choice), almond butter, vanilla protein powder, and ice.  There are so many ways to trick yourself into eating veggies too.  Make some “green drinks.” Just throw a bunch of shiz together and suck it up.  So many fitness coaches will tell you the first step in changing your diet is to just add ONE smoothie a day.

FIVE

Pack workout clothes.  I’ve said this a million times. #BrokenRecord.  Freaking pack the clothes the night before or morning of and put them in your trunk.  It (quite frankly) DOESN’T MATTER a ton what you do once you put those things on.  Just get moving.  Mix it up between weights and cardio and yoga and hikes and paddle boarding or whatever.  Just be prepared to be healthy.  The greatest part about PREPARING to be HEALTHY is that you don’t HAVE to go to the gym JUST because you are prepared to… you just don’t have any excuse not to.  Even if I’m NOT feeling it, I’ll still try to go and do something active.  Something is always better than nothing.

SIX

Grab drinks with an old friend.  I mean, these are probably not the health tips you were expecting… but they come FULL circle.  Just seeing people that I love and haven’t seen in a while seriously opens up doors… in my mind… into realms of good vibes and fresh starts.  There is NOTHING like seeing that good friend who loves you for you.  It feels so good and I think it is essential in becoming a healthier person.  Nurture your relationships and mend anything that is broken.

SEVEN

Don’t do STUPID SHIZ.  Don’t break laws, drive drunk or high, text while driving, or lie, cheat, steal, etc.  I mean, this may be obvious and random… but I can’t tell you how many people I have to tell not to text while driving me around.  I’m not letting your emojis get in the way of me being alive, man.  C’mon.  Take an uber.  How does this make you healthier? Well, you don’t have to WORRY.  Alleviating worry is one of the best things you can do for anxiety.  Be cognizant of the speed limit, your surroundings, and your attitude.  I feel like I have avoided so many hard times by doing the RIGHT thing, regardless of whether I think it should be a law or not.  I feel like a preachy mom, but seriously texting and driving is so DUMB.

EIGHT

Clean.  What? You were expecting a bunch of secret recipes for healthy snacks? NOPE.  Set time in your schedule this week to clean out your closet, your trunk, your car, etc.  NOTHING feels better than being organized.  If this comes easy to you and everything is already clean… get rid of some stuff.  Purge.  Do something to clean up your life, even if it is cleaning up your desktop on your computer.  I’m telling you, you will NOT regret it.

Example: Bed made?

NINE

Get rid of unhealthy food in your house.  I don’t think “going out for pizza” ever killed anyone… but get that nasty bad ice cream, microwave pasta, candy, stuff.  Just literally dump it.  If I am going to have a cheat meal, you can bet your bottom dollar it is NOT in my house alone.  I only eat bad OUT when other people can SEE what crap I’m eating, haha.  It’s a secret trick.  If you neeeeeeed a bowl of ice cream after work, buy some halo top or something.  Get it out of your cupboards.

TEN

Wake up 30-45 minutes earlier.  Just set your alarm to get up earlier.  Sometimes you’ll get to Starbucks and read a book.  You might actually have time to make that smoothie.  You may not need as much coffee when you get to work.  I am a strong believer that being late / getting up rigggggght at the last minute sets your day up poorly.  I just love to start fresh and getting up a bit earlier will help.  It feels so good NOT to be rushed.  If you absolutely can’t get up earlier… try to go to bed 30 min earlier.  Not much, just a little.  It’s all about small changes.

Wellllllll, I hope you guys got something positive from the 10 easy ways that I make my life healthier and better.

Xoxo
